Fingerstyle Three Methods

There are of course many different methods used in fingerstyle. Some involve sharpening your fingernails into “picks” other require you to have a plastic pick on every single finger. In terms of convenience and consistency the three methods showcased are superior in my opinion.

In the videos below I display three different fingerstyle methods that I believe are worth mentioning. No method is essentially better than another but they do have their pros and cons and the learning curve varies. It does for example take a bit more time to master the Hybrid Picking style than the Thumb-Pick, and Four-finger standard. The reason simply being that separating movement between your opposable thumb and the rest of your fingers is easier than separating movement between the Thumb + Index finger and the rest.  For someone thinking about going all out in finger style learning songs by the greats such as Tommy Emmanuel and Chet Atkins Thumb-Pick is probably the way to go.

Example 1: Nothing Else Matters by Metallica – Intro shown with the three aforementioned methods.

Example 2: Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin the Intro – again shown with: Hybrid Picking, Thumb Pick & Four Finger standard.

Example 3: Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton – the Intro – again shown with: Hybrid Picking, Thumb Pick & Four Finger standard.
